Gallery 610 Celebrates Three-Year Anniversary

Last Updated 1/23/2025

This past January marked a special milestone for Gallery 610, a vibrant program of RenewAll that provides local artists with a dedicated space to showcase and sell their unique creations. Located in the heart of the Central City Historic District at 610 W. 14th Street, Huntington, WV, Gallery 610 has become a cornerstone of the local arts community.

A Successful Exhibit

The anniversary exhibit, "Anything Goes," brought together numerous artists who have contributed to the gallery over the past three years, including Kathryn Thompson, Efi Gianna, Abby Sowards, Hannah Fitzgerald, Samantha Taylor, Johnna Hodge, and Patty Stewart. The exhibit was intentionally eclectic, with artists invited to submit two to three of their favorite pieces.

Denise Poole, Gallery 610’s curator since its inception, explained, “The idea for this particular exhibit was to include as many of the artists who have shown their work with us over the past three years as possible – anything of their choosing – and to have fun celebrating together.” She added, “The gallery is a really cool space, and I want to encourage the art community to visit and consider submitting work in the future. We’re always receptive to new thoughts and ideas from the art-lover community.”

Notably, Patty Stewart’s painting Party in the Dark sold during the event, further highlighting the gallery’s role in supporting local artists.

A Memorable Moment

One of the most significant highlights of the anniversary celebration was the story behind Efi Gianna’s embroidered portrait, Redhead. This stunning piece is a tribute to Johnna Hodge, a local filmmaker, actress, and producer. Efi and Johnna first connected at Village Antiques & Art when Johnna admired one of Efi’s scarves. Their shared artistic passion blossomed into a friendship, with Efi later providing costumes and props for Johnna’s film, Redhead. Efi said she’s been struck by Johnna’s talent and charisma since they became friends.

The anniversary exhibit featured Efi’s portrait of Johnna titled, “Redhead,” alongside a poster for Johnna’s film. This collaboration and friendship between two talented artists became a standout moment of the celebration, reflecting the gallery’s mission to foster connections within the creative community.

What Is Gallery 610?

Gallery 610 is a thriving gallery housed within Village Antiques & Art. Since its inception three years ago, the gallery has served as a platform for local and regional artists to share their work with the community. As the gallery enters its fourth year, plans are underway to feature even more exciting talent and exhibits.

The gallery typically hosts eight exhibits annually, split evenly between solo and group shows. The 2025 season promises to be particularly exciting, with solo exhibitions by artists like Abby Sowards and Jonathan Angle. Group shows will include themes such as Moon Glow, Rags to Riches, MidSummer: Power of the Sun, and Woodstock Revisited.

For artists interested in participating, there is currently a call for submissions for the Moon Glow group show. Additionally, curator Denise Poole is accepting inquiries for 2026 solo exhibitions and can be contacted at [email protected]

Looking Ahead

As Gallery 610 continues to grow, its mission remains clear: to provide a welcoming space for artistic expression and community connection. With an impressive lineup of exhibits planned for 2025 and ongoing opportunities for artists to showcase their work, the gallery is set to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
