Discover the Power of Pokémon with JD Rappold at Village Antiques & Art

Last Updated 9/24/2024

Are you a Pokémon enthusiast or just curious about the world of card collecting? Join us at Village Antiques & Art for a special event featuring JD Rappold, a seasoned Pokémon collector, who will share his love for the franchise and offer valuable insights into the world of Pokémon cards. Whether you’re a novice eager to start your collection or a seasoned collector, this event is an excellent opportunity to learn from an expert!

In an exclusive interview, JD shared some of his background on Pokémon. JD said he has been collecting Pokémon cards since he was 10 years old. His passion began with the original base set, and today he specializes in these vintage cards. His knowledge, however, spans the entire Pokémon universe, with expertise in both old and new releases. JD’s upcoming talk, "The Power of Pokémon", will guide attendees through the fascinating history of the cards, explaining what makes certain collections stand out, and dive deep into the specifics of identifying authentic cards, evaluating their value, and caring for them.

As JD puts it, “Collecting cards is the same as collecting many other things, which represents history.” Through his years of experience, he has learned that Pokémon cards are more than just a hobby—they tell stories and create connections between people, no matter their age.

JD is a Huntington, WV native, and his global travels as a professional ice skater have given him a unique perspective on the importance of local culture and community. He’s passionate about supporting small businesses like Village Antiques & Art and his sister’s vintage shop, Abby Roads Thrifts, where you’ll find several of his prized Pokémon cards for sale. For JD, local businesses help preserve the city’s personality, fostering real experiences and connections—things you can’t find in big-box stores.

In his words, hobbies like card collecting “keep people excited about things other than the monotony of their daily grind.” For JD, the joy of collecting is not just about the cards themselves but about the friendships formed and the sense of discovery that comes with each new find.

During his presentation, JD will cover:

  • A brief history of Pokémon and why it continues to captivate fans worldwide.

  • An in-depth look at the different types of cards, including their features and functions.

  • How to spot counterfeit cards and ensure the authenticity of your collection.

  • Tips on properly valuing, storing, and protecting your Pokémon cards.

JD also shared with us that some of his favorite cards include Psychic types like Gengar and the iconic Pikachu.

Don’t miss out! This event is a must-attend for collectors of all ages and levels of experience. Whether you’re looking to add to your collection, learn something new, or simply enjoy an afternoon immersed in Pokémon culture, JD’s talk is sure to inspire and inform. Plus, you’ll have the chance to browse through JD’s curated collection available at Abby Roads Thrifts, located on the second floor of Village Antiques & Art.

Come be a part of this unique opportunity to explore the world of Pokémon, support local businesses, and maybe even find that perfect card you’ve been searching for!
