Last Updated 5/15/2025

Gallery 610’s newest show, “Power of the Sun,” is open for visitors, and items are available for purchase during business hours at Village Antiques & Art until June 18th. Works by six local artists are featured in this group show: A.D. Maynard, Kathryn Thompson, Michelle Afford, Alexei Mei Black, Laura Moul & Tiffany Bailey. In addition to Power of the Sun, Clayton Spangler returns to Gallery 610 for a small solo show as well. His work is on display and available for purchase in Gallery 610 until June 18th. Read on to learn about each artist!

A.D. Maynard is a local artist living and working in Huntington, WV. She works in a variety of mediums often using acrylics on canvas, assemblages, collages and 3-D works.

A.D. is also a numerologist, and metaphysician that specializes in ancient cultures. She is a graduate of Healing Hearts Academy and currently sits on the Board of Directors. She is also a featured speaker on the international Spirit Heart Cruises. Her next appearance will be on the December cruise to Mexico and Honduras.

A.D. teaches Ancient Alien Theory on the MyMysticalLife.com platform as well. She will be leading a group to Egypt and Jordan in November 2025. Much of this knowledge is reflected and expressed in her artwork.

Kathryn Thompson is a native West Virginian whose artwork focuses on the intersections of fantasy and reality, the supernatural and nature.

She primarily works with oils and gouache, but ventures into other mediums as well. Recently, she’s been exploring ways to turn unusual items into painting surfaces.

While she has always loved creating art, Kathryn has moved into professional artistry over the past five years. She received degrees in English and History at Marshall University and graduating during the economic shutdown of 2020, she decided to turn to art as a career instead.

Kathryn currently teaches K3-12 art at Grace Christian School and works on her own art additionally. She hopes her pieces bring viewers a sense of the wonder and delight she has found in fantasy worlds and fairy tales. A lifelong “West-Ender”, she is excited to be part of bringing the arts to the Central City area.

Michelle Afford is a self-taught artist living in Huntington WV. Her work ranges from a variety of mediums to include woodburning, painting, digital media, mixed media, and more. Her desire to learn greatly impacts her art and opens new areas that she enjoys incorporating into her work.

Michelle’s wood burned pieces often include the use of dyes, acrylic paints, stains and more to add rich color and depth that accentuates the wood’s surface as well as the design.

Laura Moul has been creating award-winning photographic landscape and scenic images since 1991. She is one of only 3% of Professional photographers in the United States that has achieved national certification from the Professional Photographic Certification Commission.

She has completed requirements and successfully recertified them in 2003, 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2022. Additionally, she was awarded Master Photographer in 2001 (from Professional Photographers of America) and Craftsman Photographer in 2012.

Laura is a Tamarack artist, whose work has been juried into galleries and art shows in WV, OH, and KY. Shis is one of the selected artists in the University of Charleston WV Women Artists Emma Byrd Gallery permanent exhibit.

Tiffany Bailey comes from a small town in southern Ohio, where she said she started dabbling in photography at the age of 10 after discovering a stash of half-used disposable cameras in the kitchen’s junk drawer. “Since that day, I’ve been obsessed with documenting everything in life. Each moment is a gift, and I don’t want to forget a thing,” she said.

Tiffany started Acorn & Oak photography in 2013 with only a handful of clients in her first year. “I had no clue what a blessing this little business would be for me and my family. Flash forward 12 years and I’ve had the honor of witnessing hundreds of people in love getting married, babies come earthside, kids go from toddlers to teenagers, and so much more!”

While traveling throughout West Virginia, Photographic Artist Clayton Spangler follows his muse of color, shadow and light to see a different world around him than most.

He plays with these elements to create beautiful, captivating interpretations of intimate landscapes- energetic lines of movement, blooming harmonious color converging into organic shape.

Spangler says " Even though I shoot digitally and have a concept of what I want to happen, I never know exactly how things will turn out until I look at my images later. Sometimes the feeling I get looking at the photos leads me into a different direction than where I thought they would take me originally.
